Overtime does not pyramid.

Four ten-hour days and an eight is forty regular and eight over — not sixteen. Paying an hour twice is a rounding error that compounds every single week.

On hand is not available.

Ten on the shelf with eight committed to jobs is two. Every system that shows you ten is the reason a shop buys its fourth HDMI matrix while three sit in vans.

“Under warranty” is not one answer.

A manufacturer term runs years and your labour warranty runs months, so usually the part is free and the visit is not. Said before dispatch that is a conversation; discovered at invoicing it is a dispute.

The alarm is not the expiry date.

It is the last day you could still have renewed in time. A licence that takes six weeks and expires in thirty days has already lapsed — and every expiry report in the world still shows it as valid.

The odometer is a reading, not a fact.

Nobody streams mileage off the CAN bus; somebody types a number in when they remember. So every mileage carries when it was read, and a guess may add urgency — never remove it.

Nothing on the dashboard is stored.

Every figure is recomputed from the screen that owns it, and links back to it. A dashboard that can drift from the data is one people stop believing, including the one time it is right and alarming.
